Talking turkey
MILWAUKEE — W.I.S. Logistics, a family-owned third-party logistics company, is still moving freight this fall, but it’s also moving turkeys.
That’s because the business is hosting its 6th Annual Turkey Drive for the Food Pantry of Waukesha County. The event, known as the annual “Give Them the Bird” turkey drive, has the goal of raising a best-ever $14,000 to buy 1,077 turkeys. WIS Logistics CEO Jon Teraoka has been leading the effort, as he’s working with other area CEOs toward the goal. In November, once the funds have been raised, the company will purchase the turkeys and deliver them using its own trucks.
“Each year, we look to raise the bar to help feed more people in our local community,” said Teraoka. “It’s a tremendous effort by everyone involved.”
Last year, the Food Pantry of Waukesha County gave away 1,400 turkeys and fixings for Thanksgiving. Every year, WIS Logistics volunteers for and commits to over 35 charities, including over $60,000 in donations over the past five years to the food pantry.
