We consider a career with W.I.S. Logistics a “special calling.” Perhaps it’s why many of our employees have been with our company for ten or more years. And because our employees are special to us, we thought we should highlight them more. That’s why we will occasionally feature employees in our “Meet the Team Member” blogs. It’s an opportunity to get to know the people behind our name.

For our first installation in this series, we sat down with Logistics Specialist Jess Buchmann for a conversation.

Jess, you’ve worked for W.I.S. Logistics for seven years. Tell us about your current role here.

I handle all new customer opportunities and the day-to-day operations of new customers who sign on with W.I.S. Logistics. My goal is to work with these customers to identify their needs and provide the company service that is expected of us.

Could you share an example of a customer experience that made you feel you were meant for this career?

A previous customer recently reached out to us for assistance with their emergency freight. Of course, I’m here to help, so I did everything I could for them. Two months later, the customer asked if I would be interested in bidding on their regular freight in their Transportation Management System (TMS) because they were pleased with my response times, service, and our rates. I love to help and do what the customer needs.

What’s the most important thing that you’ve learned on the job in the past year?

This last year has definitely been something, especially with the amount of change that every company had to endure. The most important thing I learned was that we will get through it together. We worked hard to overcome new challenges while the pandemic rocked the world. Every piece and player of our team adjusted. Our team proved that we could work together to do what is needed for W.I.S. Logistics.

Why do you like working here?

One of the biggest things I love about being a part of this team is that we are like family. At the end of the day, I know that the team has my back, and I will have theirs. They have shown me so much love and kindness through the years as I battled personal situations and health issues.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spare time? What’s that? Seriously, when there are some free moments, I enjoy creative outlets such as canvas painting, coloring, and experimenting with makeup. Playing with my cats and spending time with my teenagers is important to me. I also dream about moving to Florida. I love it there.
