Kim Bero has been an integral part of the W.I.S. Logistics’ team for nearly a decade. Because of the dedicated and friendly team members we have (like Kim), we’re able to provide service like no one else in our industry. We got to sit down with Kim and learn more about what keeps her busy, not just at work, but also at home.
How long have you worked at W.I.S. Logistics? Tell us about your current role here.
I started working for W.I.S. Logistics in 2000 as a sales assistant. I left in 2004 to pursue my manicurist career, but came back in 2013 and have been here ever since. In 2013, I was hired part-time as an administrative assistant, entering in quotes and making calls. By March of 2014, I was full time and promoted to a broker. Currently, I am a broker with one of our largest accounts. I’d really like to thank Jon, Janelle, Leo and Angie for taking the chance with me.
Tell us about a recent accomplishment or experience that made you feel you were
meant for this kind of work.
I’m not sure if I have ever considered myself “meant” for this job. But I love the job and the people I work with, and strive to do my best every day, no matter what is thrown my way. As for a recent accomplishment, we were able to significantly grow one of the accounts that I currently manage. This job and this account are not meant to be a “one-person” show. It takes teamwork and dedication by all to accomplish our goals.
What’s the most interesting project or idea you are working on right now?
Every day there is some new challenge with my accounts to work through and overcome. I have been told I excel at thinking outside the box when it comes to resolving challenges, and I take pride in that. I will find a way to keep moving forward!
Why do you like working at W.I.S. Logistics?
My mother worked for several LTL companies when I was younger before finally coming to W.I.S. in 1999. She retired in 2019 after 20 years here. I have two brothers that currently work for an LTL company – one is Milwaukee and one in Missouri. My sister also worked for a broker for several years. It’s in our blood! The people at W.I.S. Logistics are family. From the top down, everyone here is genuine and loving towards one another. You don’t get that everywhere.
In my years, I have had many job experiences. I’ve been a senior pharmacy technician, a telemarketer, a private investigator, a bar manager, a bartender, a manicurist and a title searcher to name just a few. I have always lived by the motto, “life is about the experiences we have. Go out and live life – experience it. It will pass you by if you don’t.” I have been able to take something away from each experience that has helped me grow as a person.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I don’t have much spare time—ha! I have two children, a husband, two dogs and a lizard. I still do nails and once a month go to a friend’s home and give six pedicures – what we call a Pedi Party. I crochet, mainly for my house, but have been known to donate to Children’s Hospital when I make baby blankets. My sister has a child with a brain tumor, so Children’s Hospital has been a big part of our life for the last seven years. Whenever possible I donate to them, whether it be time or products that I have made. I also have a workstation in my basement for polymer clay and resin.
Do you have any secret talents?
Well, if I tell you they wouldn’t be a secret, would they? I like making people laugh! There was a time when I could come up with a movie quote to fit just about any situation. Is that a talent?
